Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Riding Lawn Tractor Dies, briggs and stratton, analog multimeter

Question
Craftsman 42" 6 Speed Lawn Tractor
15.5 HP OPV
Briggs and Stratton TurboCool
Model 917.258470
S/N 101796D    002407

Engine
Model - 28N707
Type - 0173-01
Code - 961014ZE

System starts normally (and powerfully).
Then when letting out the clutch/brake the
engine dies. Before the engine dies if the pedal is again depressed then the engine revs normally again. All connections appear to be tight (disconnected and reconnected all of them). Purchased used 2 months ago and this is the only real problem we have encountered. Otherwise, what a powerful mower :)  A friend thinks that it might be one of the safety switches (sort of acts like this) but for the life of me I am unable to find the fix :(

Answer
How many safety switches did you find?
Clutch, seat and deck?
There may be a safety witch on the transmission reverse or shifting arm.
Are the 4 wires on the clutch switch?

It's most likely a switch prob.
Do you have digital or analog multimeter?  If so you can check the switches for continunity.  The switches are simple open, no continunity, or closed, contununity.

Let me know.
