Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Smoking craftsman eager-1 mower, craftsman eager 1, oil ring

Question
Hey there,

This older mower normally emits a little smoke when starting, but then is fine. The last time I tried it, the smoke just kept coming, and continued for a short time after shutting it off. The oil level is fine. Any tips? Thanks for your help.

Answer
 Hello Larry:

Check the Crankcase Vent. It May Not be Venting the Crankcase Properly. This can Cause the Problem you Described. Next Check the Compression. If this is an OHV Engine, a Blown Headgasket Between the Valves and the Cylinder can cause this. Worn Out Oil Ring. Is there Gas Smell to the Oil? The Carburator can Leak by the Carburator Float Needle on Some Models and the Gas Thins the Oil Causing Smoke. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can View a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
