Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mastercraft mower, carburator, engine numbers

Question
Thanks John.  How difficult is this to do myself?  I'm a bean counter so mechanically inclined is something I'm not.  I'm not realy sure where the carburator is either.  I can forward the make and model for you in the next few days if you think this is something we can accomplish together.

Regards,

Rich

Hi John,

I have a 6 year old mower and just can't get it going.  I've changed the sparkplug and the air filter but still, it won't go.  If I prime it 5 or 6 times and immediately crank it, it will start momentarily (second or two), but then it stops and on any subsequent crank, there is no sign of life.

Prior to it's dormant state, it hadn't been running well.  Slowly, it became more and more difficult and a few weeks ago, after shutting it off, it refused to start again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

 Hello Rich:

From your Description the Carburator needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Be Sure to Soak the Carburator Overnight(not the Plastic Carburator) in Cleaning Solution. Then Blow All the Passages Out with Compressed Air. If you wish to Attempt this Repair Yourself, Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine(on the metal engine cover), Please. With these Numbers I May be Able to Locate a Breakdown of the Engine and Carburator that will Assist you. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
