Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 4hp Briggs and Stratton, briggs and stratton, carburator

Question
I have had this yard machine push mower for about 4 years and no problems until now, it will start then after about 10 seconds it sounds like the idle gets slower and slower then it stops running. I have cleaned air filter, new spark plug, took muffler off, push prime ball when it starts to stop running but it is still stalling out. Any help would be appreciated before I have to take to repair shop.

Answer
 Hello Rod:

From your Description, I Suggest the Carburator be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Varnish from the Gas that Builds Up over Time in the Passages Inside the Carburator is Restricting the Gas Flow to the Carburator Jet. If you Wish to Attempt this Repair Yourself; Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine and I May be Able to Locate a Breakdown that will Assist you in this Repair. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
