Question -
I have a grasshopper riding mower and when I engage the blades the mower acts like it wants to stall out or quit running completely. I have changed the sparkplugs and the fuel filter but the problem remains. While it is running, there is a lot of smoke like the mower is burning oil and when I remove the air filter cover to check the filter, there is oil laying there.

 Hello Larry:

Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these I can View a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. However, the Crankcase Vent May Not be Functioning Properly. Is the Mower Overfilled with Oil? Depending on the Engine Numbers, it can Also be a Blown Head Gasket. How does the Engine Perform with NO LOAD. Does it still Smoke? Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Larry:

On this Model it can be the Head Gasket Blown between the Cylinder and the Valve Port Pushing Compression into the Crankcase causing the Pressure to Override the Crankcase Vent. It May also be a Bad Valve Guide. You can View a Complete Breakdown at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&.
