Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stalling, 6HP Briggs & Stratton, briggs stratton, float bowl

Question
Hi, my father's Craftsman mower has a stalling problem.  It will only run if the red primer button is held in and will stall when it is released.  Thought it was faulty fuel but that was not it.  Any ideas?  thanks

Answer
This is a classic dirty carburetor problem.  You can try draining the carb bowl by removing the float bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor.  Make sure the holes in the float bowl nut are clean.

If it continues to stall after you drain the carb bowl you will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air from an air compressor.

Let me know if this helps.
