Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman push mower, carburator, exhaust port

Question
Pull the cord it coughs and splutters to an almost start.(This is only after it has set awhile.) I check the plug and it's covered with gas. What's happening?

 Hello Carolyn:

 Check the Exhaust Port for Carbon Blockagge and the Muffler for Blockage. If these are Good, then the Carburator is Flooding the Engine. Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. If you are going to Attemp this Repair, Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown of the Engine that will Assist you in this Repair.
