Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John deere STX38 lawn mower, john deere stx38, safety switches

Hi John,
I acquired an STX 38 mower but I cannot get it to start.When I turn the starter switch, nothing happens. I shorted then terminals at the Solenoid and I was able to get the motor cranking but it would still not start. I had the switch on run when I tried this. Then I pulled out the spark plug and checked for spark but there was none. Can you please tell me what I should do next?

 Hello Peter:

 To get the Proper Diagram I will Need the Serial Numbers also. However, The Seat Safety will not Let the Engine Fire if you are not Seated. Check the Safety Switches. There is a Relay on Some of these Mowers that Will Go Bad and Prevent the Soleniod from Working. It Could also be a Bad Soleniod. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
