Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton 11hp, crankcase oil, briggs and stratton

Question
A friend gave me a Wheel Horse tractor that is twenty years old.
It ran fine until three years ago when she parked it in a shed.  I
put fresh gas in it and after a couple of minutes  the gas came
dripping out of the carb area. I then drained the oil and it
appears that it was mostly gas.  I took off the muffler and the
area inside is wet with gas. I removed the carb and found no
debris but was unable to open the bowl to check the float. I'm
stumped. How could gas make it to the oil?  Does the carb come
apart?  Do I have to tear down the engine to solve this? Your
help will be appreciated.  Thanx PJM

Answer
 Hello Peter:

The Gas Enters the Crankcase Oil whenever the Carburator Floods. This Happens when the Gas Enters the Cylinder through the Intake Valve and then Seeps by the Rings into the Crankcase. Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine and I can Locate a Diagram of the Engine and Assist you Better. The Carburator should come Apart. Let the Crankcase Stay Open to Air While you Repair the Carburator. The Gas will Evaporate from Inside the Crankcase. I also Suggest Flushing the Crankcase with Inexpensive Engine Oil. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
