Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lt 1000 craftsmand riding mower, transaxle, craftsman

i have a lt 1000 craftsman riding mower. model :917.272672. this a dana 4360-160 transaxle. this transaxle is frozen or locked up. I have found many articles about them being locked up and sears not fixing them. Is there a way to fix it? and how? they want 500.00 for a new unit.

 If You Feel that You can Remove the Transaxle and Follow the Parts Breadown for Disassembly and Reassembly of the Transaxle you can go to http://www.landscapepower.com/ and Look Under Dana Transaxles. Enter the 4360 Number. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
