I have the Intake manifold off, and the exhaust manifold off, I can see the valves for both pistons. The engine has 2 pistons that are opposite each other. This is not a V twin.

Question -
I have taken off the oil pan and the timming gear on the drive shaft came off with it. How do I know if i have the timming gear orientated correctly. I have the dot on doth cam and shaft gear lined up, but it looks like it could be correct or 180 out. can you help.

 You have the Cam and Crankshaft Correct. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/Briggs_And_Stratton/bsmain.html and Click on the Dont have Part Numbers. When the Next Screen Choose 42 and then 42E700 File. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Hpapens, Please.
