Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi Mower w/Tecumseh 6.5hp Smoking, white smoke, oil level

Question
Hi. I used our mower this morning with no problems. I fueled up before mowing and checked the oil level. However, I didn't finish the job this morning and went out this evening to do so. When I started the mower, a big puff of white smoke came out and then still had white smoke coming out of muffler (at least I think its the muffler.) I shut it off and then tried again. No big puff of white smoke, but it still was smoking. The oil level looks okay. I did one short pass of the yard hoping it would quit. It didn't so I shut it off again. Is this something we can try to fix at home or does it need to go to the shop? Thanks for your help.

Answer
 Hello Sally:

Check for the Engine Oil Smelling Of Gas, Please. The White Smoke is a Sign that Gas has Gotten into the Oil Most times. If the Oil Smells of Gas, then Change the Oil and Check the Gas Cap and Ensure it is Venting the Gas Tank Properly. If the Cap is Good, then the Craburator Float Needle is Not Seating Properly and the Carburator should be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
