Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Locked up engine, oil level, connecting rod

Question
The flywheel on my 20 hp Craftsman riding lawn mower will not turn, by egnition key or by hand.  When I checked the oil level, no oil was on the stick.  Have I completely ruined the engine or can it repaired.  Should I just plan on buying a new engine.

Answer
 Hello Don:

Remove the Belts from the Engine Pulley. Try to Turn the Engine Backwards and Forwards. If the Engine Still will Not Turn, then I would Suggsest a New Short Block for the Mower. From Past Experience I have Found that Most Times when an Engine Locks Up as you Described, the Engine Is No Longer Any Good. I have Freed up Many of Engine and All but a Very Few Have Not been Worth the Effort to Repair. Normally the Connecting Rod and Crankshaft are Damaged. The Piston And Rings May have Frozen to the Block. By the Time you Spend the Money to Repair the Engine, you Could Have Purchased a Short Block for the Mower. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
