Question -
I have a 4 year old LT1000.  I have been having trouble starting it all season, and now it first tries to turn over, if I try again, it makes a clicking sound. I cleaned the battery terminals, etc, checked the spark plug and now think it's either the solenoid or the starter. Where is the solenoid located and is the starter right behind the console? How do I determine which problem it is and once I know what the problem is, how do I replace the starter and/or the solenoid?  The manual also mentioned it could be a bad fuse, but I am having trouble locating the fuse.  The only one I can find is for the headlights.
Thank you for your advice.

 Hello MK:

First you need to Check the Battery for a Dead/Weak Cell. A Battery Load Tester is Required for this. However you can Check the Battery for Charge by Taking a Jumper Cable Set and Place the Positive Cable on the Positive Post of the Battery in the Mower. Take the Other Positive Jumper Cable End and Firmly Touch the Large Post on the Starter. Does the Engine Turn? If No, Then the Battery in the Mower Doesnt have Enough Charge to Turn the Engine and Needs to be Charged or Replaced. Without the Make and Model Numbers Off of the Frame, I can Only Speculate the Location of the Soleniod. Send me the Make, and Model Numbers Off of the Mower and the Engine and I can Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

Thank you for your fast response. My lawn tractor is a craftman LT1000, Model No. 917.272058.  I do not think my  battery is the problem. I think it may be the carburator.
also I have a question about the throtle control adjustment; is the hole in throtle lever and the hole in speed control bracket supossed to be aligned in the fast/rabbit position or the middle position where the arrow is.

Also if the carburator needs to be cleaned, can you tell me how to do it?

Thank you.

Answer
 Hello MK:

Go to this Addy http://www3.sears.com/ and in the Lower Right Corner of this Page Click the Lawn Equipment. On the Next Page Enter the Model Number of the Mower and Click Continue. On the Next Page, Verify the Infomation and Click Continue. On the Next Page, Scroll Down to the Section for Electrical and Mark View Diagram and Click Continue. A New Window will Pop up and Show you the Soleniod and the Harness. For The Carburator I will Nee the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine. I May be Able to get a Diagram for you to see the Carburator Breakdown. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
