Question -
I have a bad starter on my stx 38. I took it out and  took it apart. One of the brushes has burnt up. I need a new set. I called the local dealer and he told me that I couldn't buy a set of brushes for this starter. That they no longer made this one and that I'd have to cough up $150 or so to buy a new one. There is no brand name on the starter, but is there no place I can turn to for a set of brushes. This mower is less than 10 years old.

 Hello Don:

Can you Send me the Numbers Off of the Starte=ter, Please. I May be Able to Locate a Rebuild Kit or a Starter at a Reasonable Price. Also, My Local NAPA has an Outlet for Starter Parts. I have Gotten Brushes and Bushings from them Several Times. Hope this Helps. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John

John, The number on the case is a larger 2509 followed by smaller 804 on the same line and below this is a number that is hard to read, I think it is 25262. If you can help me I would be forever indebted to you, Thanks a bunch, Don

Answer
 Hello Don:

I have Spoken with My Contact at the Local John Deere Dealer and was Informed that the Starter Cap(Commutator) had the Brushes Attached to it. However, I was Advised that this is Only on Some Model Starters. Go to this Addy and you can See the Starter. http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H It Shows the Brushes on the Cap. I would Suggest you Contact the John Deere Site and Inquire about this Cap. If you dont have the Time and Wish for Me to Research this, Just Let me Know. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
