Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mover Engine, craftsman eager 1, empty gas tank

Question
I have an Craftsman Eager-1 4.5 hp mower. The mower has sat idle for 5 years with an empty gas tank. With fresh gas and a clean re-gapped plug, the mower would not start. Spraying starter fluid into the carb area via the air filter, the engine would run a bit but stop. I suspect gas flow issues. Removing the entire carb assembly (From engine block back), I dropped the small fuel cup and inspected and cleaned all parts. The bolt for the cup has a single (?) pin hole which needed to be cleaned. Now the mowers runs for 4-5 minutes then chokes out. Is the a float problem and would it be too little or too much fuel? The float and value (silver pointed) appear functioning properly. Any ideas?

Answer
 Hello Kevin:

If when the Engine Shuts Off; You have Fire at the Plug. Then Remove the Carburator and Soak it Overnight in Cleaning Solution. Gas Forms a Varnish Inside the Jets of the Carburator. After Sitting for 5 Years your Carburator Requires it to Function Properly and Give Good Service. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
