Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 6.5 keeps dying, bad hope, plug hole

Question
I have a Craftsman 6.5 HP (powered by B and S) that keeps dying after a few minutes. I have replaced the spark plug, air filter, and cleaned the carb twice. When it runs it will run for about 3-5 minutes, starts to sputter, then dies and will not restart for many hours afterwards. When it is dead, I have checked for spark and do not see one. Is this a ignition coil problem? Do I need an entire new carb?

Answer
 Hello Randy:

Properly Check the Coil. Take a Plug and Wrap a Wire Around the Threads. Attach the Other End of the Wire to the Bolt above the Plug Hole. This Gives a Good Ground to Check the Coil. If you have No Spark, then Disconnect the Coil Shut Off Wire at the Connection Located on the Engine. Test for Spark again. If still No Spark, then the Coil is Bad. Remember to do this Check as soon as the Engine Quits. A Coil will Heat up and Ground itself out if it is Going bad. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
