Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Weed eater pull cord, wd 40, recoil spring

Question
I pulled my cord to start my weed eater and the cord now is stuck out and will not recoil.  How do I fix that problem?

Answer
The recoil spring may be broke or it may just need lubrication.

Try using some WD-40 around the starter pulley area and if there is enough room use a small screwdriver to see if you can turn the starter pulley and retract some of the string.
