Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower wont turn over, spark plug wire, john deere mower

Question
We have a John Deere mower, model 92902 type 3156-01 Code 84010405. 21" Walk behind. My step dad just died, and the damn lawn just keeps growing!!! We need the mower to work, my mother and I know noting about it except the basics, checked oil, gas, and spark plug.  All fine, but it doesn't even seem to be turning over.  We had no spark plug and took one from our snow blower.  The spark plug says E3.14 on it.  Put the throttle on slow.  Sprayed a small bit of Choke Cleaner, at brother's suggestion.  We need this thing to start, any ideas?

Thank you so much for you help, I can't find anything online!  And my grandpa didn't give us the owners manual.  Thanks again for any info or ideas!

Answer
I would try a Champion CJ-8 spark plug.  This is the most common plug for the 9 cubic inch block.

You need to check if there is spark.  Connect the spark plug to the spark plug wire.  Allow the metal threaded end of the spark plug to touch the metal fins near the spark plug hole and have some pull the string turning the engine.  You should see spark.

If you have spark, then install a CJ-8 spark plug.  Remove the air filter and try spraying a little bit of starting fluid into the carburetor throat.  See if the mower will start.

Let me know what happens.
