Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro LX420 - Battery Will Not Hold Charge, selenoid, charge indicator

Question
Hi There,

I purchased a Toro LX420 about 45 days ago. After the third week, I could not restart it. When turning the key to start I was getting a clicking noise from what I'm guessing is the selenoid. I let it rest for about an hour then it started up again without hesitation.

The following week, I went to start it, and the clicking was there. On a whim, I'm thinking that it just didn't have enough juice from the battery, so I jump started it from my car's battery. After about 5 minutes of charging the mower started.

This week I had to do the same thing (jump start). I noticed that while riding it the charge indicator continuously decreased as time went by. Ultimately by the time I was finished the battery was drained.

Would you have any ideas to what this might be?

Greatly appreciated.

Answer
 Hello Andy:

Check the Battery for a Dead or Weak Cell. A Dead Cell in the Battery will Drain the Other Cells of Charge. Check the Charging System for Proper Voltage (13vdc to 13.5vdc). Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
