Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JOHN DEAR RIDER, compression issue, vapor lock

Question
John,
So you do NOT think I have a compression issue.  What range should the compression be so I can do a quick compression test.  Also, if it is a vapor lock  what do I do to solve this problem.

Thanks .
Tom

Question -
IT STARTS RIGHT UP WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. AFTER  RUNNING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, I NEED TO EMPTY THE BAGS-- WHEN I GO TO RESTART IT IT WON'T START UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN .  WHY?  IS IT POSSIBLY A COMPRESSION ISSUE ( VALVE JOB) AND IF SO WHAT SHOULD THE COMPRESSION RATIO BE AROUND.

THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER IN ADVANCE

Answer -
 Hello Tom:

When this Happens you need to Check for Fire At the Spark Plug. If No Fire at the Plug, then the Ignition Module/Coil is Bad and Needs to be Replaced. If there is Fire at the Plug, then Spray a Small amount of Gas into the Carb Throat. **BE CAREFUL-HOT ENGINE** Does it Start and Run? If Yes, then the Carb is Vapor Locking. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 John

Answer
 Hello Tom:

The Compression Should be No Lower than 70psi and MUST BE CHECKED while the Engine is Hot to be Accurate for the Problem you are having. You can do a Compression Check on a Cool/Cold Engine and it will Show Good, but When the Engine Heats Up the Rings may Not be Expanding and Causing the Compression Loss. If it is a Vapor Lock Problem, then the Heat Shield for the Carb is bad. Send me the Make and Model of your Engine and I can Assist Further. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
