Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman model 917.255276, craftsman model, clutch pedal

Question
Don't have an owner's manual.  Bought it used a couple of years ago.  It really is a bear when it's running and the older models seem to last longer and run better than the newer ones.  Can't order a manual through sears.com, they say they're no longer available.  Don't know where else to look for one.  Thanks for your help!

Question -
Belt slipping off of the drive gear.  Put it on, use the clutch, it slips off.  Have gone through several belts and wonder if there is a picture showing how to install with the pulleys.  Lawn mower guy says the belt goes around all three pulleys on the outside, but it seems to me we should have the belt on the inside of the smaller pulley.  Help~

Hiya Mary
Been awhile since I've seen one of these, but I think Mower Guy is right.  Odd as it seems, I think the belt does go on the outside of all three pullies.  If you can tilt it on its side and observe the movement of the small pully when you hit the clutch pedal- it may make it clearer.  Do you still have the owners manual?  They have a diagram of the belt installations in them.  Anyway- run it to the outside and see how it works- can't be any worse right?
Lemme know how you're doin here- you may have an additional problem- make sure that tensioning pulley turns freely!
Lemme know!

and I'll at least send you some diagrams of your mower.  Not much help but it shows all the parts.  I'll also see what else I can dig up for ya.

Oh by the way - I also need the "series" number to go with the model number.  Its a number like ..  2006  its there with the other engine numbers on the cowling
