Question -
John,  I have a scotts (J. Deere) 20hp mower.  It starts fine, engine sounds ready. When I take my foot off the brake, it dies. I cleaned the air filter. What's next?   Also, have a old, but loveable 18.5hp M.Wards riding mower. Took it to the shop 2 years ago....it ran for 1 day..of course shop won't honor the work...so its been sitting for years.  I can't get it to even move, forwards or back. My husband is horrified that I'll make matters worse. I did use butter once for a lube job on an old mower...it worked, but smelled like eggs....this is why husband..enough said.  Guide me and a simple diagram of the parts would help...the manuel I have is the wrong one.

 Hello Sharon:

Im a Little Embarrassed to Admit it, but I have Used Butter before when I was Younger and in a Bind. Like you Said, it smells like Eggs. Anyway, Please send me the Model Number of the Mower Frame (for frame and Electrical Repairs) or the Model Numbers off the Engine (for Engine Repairs). Does this Rider have a Seat Safety and Blade Safety. If Yes, then Check the Safety Switches. The Seat Safety is the Most Likely Cause to Start with. I will need the Engine Make and Model Numbers to Help More. The Numbers are Located on the Metal Engine Cover Above the Spark Plug. Hope this Helps. Let mw know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Sharon:

We will need to do a Diagnostic to find your Cause for this Problem. 1- Jumper out the Seat Safety Switch. If it Stays Running then the Seat Safety need Replacing. 2- If Not, then Jumper out the Blade Safety Switch. If This didnt Help Contact me and We can Do a Diagnostic on the Engine. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
