Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Bolt for Pulley Repair, authorized service center, metal shaft

Question

RE:  Murray Riding Lawn Mower; 14 HP/42" cut;
    Model #42812X8A

Q:   The "pulley" in the front of the engine has
dropped which allows the belt to slip off.
This pulley is attached to a hollow metal
    shaft(?) or tube.

A:    If I Understand you Correctly the Pulley
Welded to the Tube isnt Broken from the
Tube. If this is Correct, The Bolt that
Holds the Pulley to the Engine has Come
Loose. Look at the Center of the Tube, it
will have a Bolt, Up Inside the Tube. This
Bolt Holds the Pulley to the Crankshaft of
the Engine. Tighten this Bolt and the
Pulley cant Drop. If the Bolt is Missing,
Go to the Local Repair Shop and Purchase a
New Bolt. **This is a Special Bolt (Case
Hardened).** Hope this Helps. Let me know
     what Happens, Please.

Good Luck

Respectfully

John

FOLLOW-UP QUESTION:

Does the bolt need a "shoulder" or washer?  What size bolt?

Again, thank you very much for time and expertise.

Answer
Hi Jan-
Sorry for the delay..   yes the bolt needs a washer, and not just an ordinary washer.  It needs to be a heavy duty washer, it'll be alot thicker than a standard washer.  You might want to call the closest Briggs Authorized service center and buy one- they'll be hard to find at a Lowes or Home Depot.
