Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): WD 40 ? Seriously ????, sturm ruger, nrc inspectors

Question
John

WD 40 is essentially a Chlorinated Kerosene,
it is not in any meaningful sense an actual lubricant, it is a modestly effective solvent
whatever is removed original lubricant and or matrixed lubricant/soil Grunge is often temporarily freed up to one degree or another but it is most definately not left lubricated
the aerosol carrier once volutilized begins ther process of the residual WD 40 to begin varnishing
and its an insideous varnish, as it doesn't harden enough to flake of but gums up moving parts making them difficult to impossible to move without actually damaging the control cable mechanisms.

WD 40 also causes a micro stress fracuring/crystalization "Frosting" on any number of alloy surfaces, Metalurgists refer this as "Hyrogen Embrittlement".

One of the reasons that NRC Inspectors can shut down Reactors simply from the presence of WD 40 until they can obtain compelling evidence or
proof that certain critical components have in fact never been exposed to WD 40, a number of manufacturers like Sturm Ruger make immediate dismissal for intentionaly bringing a single can of WD 40 into any of it's manufacturing facilities.

The average Gunsmith, Sewing Machine Repair Tech or those who service and repair Fishing Reels often attribute   35% to 70%+ of their income to WD 40 gummed up items, they get in for repair, and in many of those cases they can easily restore the item to full servicability simply by removing the WD 40 varnish with various solvents followed by proper lubrication.

As an alleged "Expert", your Broad WD 40 recommendation, isn't particularly becoming :-(
or exactly enhacing your credibility with folks with enginweering backgrounds or serious repair experience.

There are any number of superb lubricants, penetrants and solvents currently on the market, LPS I, II or III , PB Blaster penetrant to name just a few.

Kind Regards F. Johnston
