Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Riding Mower blows 30A fuse, 30 amp fuse, safety switches

Question
I have a Craftsman riding mower model 917.271.021 It was made in 1996 I think. It has a 15.5 hp Kohler engine and hydrostatic drive. I was cutting the grass. I went down a hill with the drive in full forward. The motor cut out briefly. I went back up the hill and then down again. The motor stopped. I checked and there is a 30 amp fuse that was blown. I replaced the fuse. The motor will start but when I release the clutch which engages the hydrostatic drive, the motor dies. The wheel that drives the hydrostatic drive does turn. The transmission has what looks like an antenna on the back of it. I'm wondering if I went faster than the hydrostatic drive could keep up with? Can you tell me why the 30A fuse blew? What do you think is going on?

Answer
 Hello James:

It sounds Engine Over Rev Surge in the Charging System. Check the Safety Switches. If the Surge Popped the Fuse it may have Damaged the Seat Safety or the Blade Safety Switches. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck
