Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): clutch/brake, wheelie, transaxle

Question
Is there an adjustment on the clutch/brake on my
Murray Ultra?  I have a 12hp rear motor mower,
that pops a wheelie everytime.  In 1,2,3,4,and 5
gear, and even with the idle down.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Greg-
Jeeze pops a wheelie?  Man- yeah you need to fix that before you break the transaxle!

Sounds like the lever that moves with the clutch/brake rod is hangin up and then moving suddenly, snapping tension on the drive belt instead of gradually applying tension.  Flip it up and have a helper actuate the clutch/brake pedal, see if you can tell whats causing the tensioning bracket (it has at least one small pulley mounted on it) to move suddenly.

Pay extra attention to the big tensioning spring- that its actually mounted where its supposed to go.  Its imperative that this rod- bracket linkage operate smoothly.
Lemme know what you find!
