Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray, jumper cables, terminal connections

Question
My Murray Lawnmower wont start or turn over at all.  It acts as if the battery is dead but the headlights come on.  I assume it has something to do with the safety wires in the seat.  Anyway, it seems to be something electrical.  Any help would be great.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Mike
Electrical- yep.  Won't be wires under the seat, they just kill the ignition if you get off the mower with the deck engaged.

Number one suspect is battery terminal connections.  A poor connection will supply enough current to run lights but not enough to crank.  Clean those thouroughly, try it again.
If it still dosen't work-
Jump across the big terminals on the solenoid, use one set of leads from jumper cables- just touch it, see it the starter turns any.  If it does- we have a defective solenoid OR start switch.
Do this- lemme know what you find we'll go from there ok?
