Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 14.5 OHV I/C Quiet, battery cables, turning the key

Question
This engine is hard to start. It spins freely by removing the spark plug and turning the key. With the plug in it turns to a point and stops. sometimes it will start by bumping it just past that point so it has a whole revolution to turn. One person says the valves may need adjusted, and another says that the ACR is not working correctly. Once it is started it runs fine with plenty of power to mow with. Model 287707 Type 1224-E1 #981116Z0 Thanks, Jeff

Answer
 Hello Jeff:

Is the Battery Good? Is there Corrision on the Terminals? Is the Starter Dragging? Is the Flywheel Key damaged? Are the Battery Cables Good? Always buy the Largest Battery (CCA) that will work in your Mower. Always Replace the Battery Cables with Automotive Battery Cables. The Larger the Diameter of the Cable. The Better the AMP Flow to the Starter is and the Better Service the Starter will give. Hope this Helps.

 Respectfully

 John
