Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Idle regulation on Craftsman Eagler-1 6.0, craftsman eager 1, throttle arm

Question
Thanks a lot for your reply,..yes, the assembly located behind the air filter is where I suspect the problem is.  Is the part that you suspect to be broken located INSIDE the main housing?  There is a pin with a rectangular cross-section holding the lever arm to the main housing.  From the outside, nothing appears to be broken, but I assume this pin runs into the housing and has a break on the inside.  Am I talking about the same details here?

Hello,

Our Craftsman Eager-1 6.0 HP mower runs at absolute top RPM immediately upon starting.  I wonder if the lever that regulates the idle is somehow broken or disengaged.  I can manually pull it so that it dampens the idle, but left alone, it is always at full throttle.

Thanks,
Francis

Hiya Francis,
These mowers seem to suffer from a notoriously weak throttle control push/pull control rod.  Its probably broken, you can tell if you remove the air cleaner assembly and operate the throttle control, you should see the throttle plate move in the carb.  If you or yours are handy with tools, you can replace it.  If not, I'd take it to a shop.
Lemme know what you find!

Answer
Hi again Francis-
no- the problem area should't be inside the main housing, what you're looking for is a cable end that dosen't seem to attach to anything, but just slides in and out of a sheath when you operate the throttle lever.  These series of mowers seem to have an issue with the throttle arm (the link that operates the carburator- your cable should attach to it), whereby the throttle arm sticks real bad and causes the cable end to break   off.  Other than that they seem like good (very powerful) push mowers.  It would be worth taking it to a good shop (or really, any decent mechanic can do this) and having the throttle arm loosened up and a new cable installed.
Lemme know if this helps- if it dosen't send me an email at cantuseherstorid@bellsouth.net and I will send you a diagram, ok?
