Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): intermittent power loss in string trimmer, string trimmer, fuel flow

Question
hello michael,

i picked up a used stihl trimmer last year. at times it works like a champ, then it will begin to cut-out when i give it throttle or when i get into thicker weeds that require more power. there doesn't seem to be a pattern to the power loss, though it happens more often when the engine is hot. thanks in advance for you help.

Answer
Hi Mike,

You could check the following:
Adjust the mixture screws.
A carbon clogged spark screen in the muffler.
A lack of fuel flow to the engine requiring a carb rebuild.
Lastly, a worn engine with low compression.

Good luck.
Michael
