Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 110908 4-hp Mower, diaphram pump, pump spring

Question
My 1982-83 Toro Self Propelled mower will not run this spring. I preformed maintence like every other spring.  New spark plug, sharpened blade, filled tank with gas and change the oil.  First year I used Mobil 5-50w synethic oil.

It will start but dies 15 to 45 seconds later.  When I pull the spark plug it is always wet with what  smells and appears to be gas, but it could be  oil.

I cleaned the pulsejet carb and replaced the diaphram and set the only needle to 1 1/2 turns after bottoming it out..

Please help could it be I got the wrong diaphram or did I install the pump spring on the wrong side of the gasket
(tween Carb and Rubber diaphram, not tank side) or is it the Mobil one oil I used.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

Have you Fine Tunned the Carb. Override the Governor and Rev the Engine while turning the Fuel Mixture Screw in/out until the Engine Revs (Dont Let It Over Rev). You should notice that when you first Rev the Engine it Doesnt Rev very high before Cutting out. Fine tuning the Carb should prevent the Flooding problem. All this is considering that the Carb was cleaned Properly. Yes you have the Diaphram pump spring in properly. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
