Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replacemnt Starter, mtd riding mower, alternator repair

Allen,

 I have an older MTD Riding Mower, with a 12HP I/C engine; Model# 281707 Type 0411-01 Code# 91010331.

 I am looking to repair or replace the starter.  I've pulled the old one off and there is no part number.  I can't seem to find a replacement statrer for that engine model#.

Question here is how do you want to handle this?  Practically any small engine repair shop can cross those engine model numbers, but of course that will be expensive (70-130$).  If you want to chance it, we can run the numbers and see what EBAY has to offer (probably- 30-100$).  I'd find a good alternator repair shop local and let them give you an estimate (my last repair job at one of these shops cost me a whopping 30$.  Lemme know & I'll help ya-
