Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sear tractor mower wont start, craftsman lawn tractor, cold cranking amps

Question
Craftsman Lawn Tractor LT 1000 Model #917.272660.

The engine will not start.  It's turning and trying to start.  I have put in a new spark plug, cleaned the air filter, the gas is new.  I disconnected the fuel filter and gas squirted.  It looks like there is no obstruction relative to fuel getting to the carburetor ---- unless there something else I should check.

I hot shoted the old battery and the mover started which led me to believe that the battery (3 years old was too weak).  I bought a new battery and that did not work.  So now I'm stuck

Any suggestions?  I'm pretty handy and it bugs me to have pay Sears to come to the house when I could install a part if I knew what it was?   Thanks!

Answer
 Hello Mark:

As I understand your Problem; The Engine will Start Only when Jumped from another Battery. If this is true, here are a couple of things to check. 1- The Battery Cables Corroded inside the Shielding. If you replace the Battery Cables; use Automitive Cable. The larger the Diameter of the Battery Cable the Better the AMP Flow to the Starter and the Longer the Starter will Last. 2- The Starter may have Worn Brushes and be Dragging. This is caused by Low Amperage going to the Starter. 3- Is the Cold Cranking Amps Large enough for the Engine. Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
