Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower engine will not start, john deere dealer, old john deere

Question
John,
I have a two year old John Deere, L110. I was hauling mulch last weekend for about four hours on and off shutting it off, since my four year old are around, and then stopped with half an hour's worth of work left. It will not start again. It will not do anything. Light comes on. Called John Deere dealer and he says the battery is dead as a door-knob. I tried jump starting with car battery, but no help. If it is a dead battery, why can't I jump start it with a car battery. What is the logic?
Pls help....thanks..Raj

Answer
 Hello Raj:

It sounds like a Safety Switch. Please do the following: 1- Check the Clutch Safety Switch. 2- Check the Seat Safety Switch. 3- Check the Starter Soleniod. 4- Check the Ignition Switch. 4- Check the Battery Wires. Check the Starter. If you need assistance Checking any of these items, let me  know.  Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
