Thanks in advance Mike

Answer
Hiya Michael

Heh - I'm having a bit of difficulty here- you say kohler, and I believe you, but Sears cross references model 917.273461 to a briggs!  Just for my peace of mind- it DOES say Kohler in big letters on the cowling right?  This is a commander series engine?  (I'd greatly prefer Kohlers engine plate model numbers if you can see them)

Depending on the above- you may have a trigger gap issue.  Modern Kohlers with breakerless ignitions use a solid state trigger circuit that relys on a pin embedded in the flywheel.  Theres a gap setting between the pin and the coil pickup.
Verify for me that you have a Kohler and I'll shoot you some specific checks.
Lemme know!
