Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts by John Deer, john deer, mower deck

Question
I have a 17.5 Kohler command engine that is on a "Scotts" by Johgn Deer riding mover, 42" automatic.  It ran great until one day I engaged the mower deck and it hasn't started since then.  It cranks but "back fires" and won't start.  Plenty of fuel in the tank.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
 Hello Dave:

If it Died when you Engaged the Deck, then Check the Flywheel Key. The Problem you are Describing is The Timing is Off (Backfiring). The Flywheel Key is the Timing of your Engine. I have seen Several Mowers that have done this just like you Described.  Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
