Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman mower repair, craftsman 917, overhaul kit

Question
I have a craftsman 917.377521 push mower. The engine starts fine when I put some gas directly in the carb, then dies out. If I get it started and continue to use the primer bulb, it will work sparatically, then die out. I have cleaned the gas tank and all the old fuel from the engine. I have emptied the bowl on the carb. Any clues? Will a can of carb cleaner help? Everything seems to be clean.

Answer
 Hello Larry:

When Gas is Left in the Tank and Carb it forms into a Varnish. This Tends to Block the Carb and it has to be Soaked in Carb Cleaner Overnite, Blown out with Air and Reassembled with New Parts. These Parts are in the Overhaul Kit. If properly Cleaned it will Run Just Fine.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
