Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Tractor Brakes, sears craftman, s sears

Question
I have an old ( not sure of year maybe in the 1980's)  Sears Craftman II that no longer stops. All the adjustment at the rod is gone. I suspect the brake pads are worn out. Is it a relatively easy job to replace them?, if so how do I do it?

Call it old reliable, always starts and runs fine... just won't stop anymore

thx
David

Answer
 Hello David

The Brake Pads are Worn Out or Out of Adjustment on the Transaxle. On the Right Side of the Transaxle Housing  (facing Front of Mower)is where the Brake Assembly is Located.  Look at the Brake Adjustment Nut and see if there is any Adjustment Left on it. If so then Re-Adjust the Linkeage and Adjust the Brake Pads from here. If there is no Adjustment, then the Brake Pads are Worn Out. If the Brake Pads have never been Adjusted at the Brake Assembly, you should still have Brake Pad left to Adjust.
If there is no Adjustment or the Brake Pads need Replacing; Look at the Brake Assembly and if you feel you would like me to Walk you Thru the Brake Pad Replacement just Contact me again. I will be Happy to Assist you.

NOTE: The Brake Assembly is No Larger than a Spray Paint Cap.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
