Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 12HP caburetor, fly wheel, hp model

Hi Allen,

I have an old ride on mower with a B&S 12 HP model # 281707 engine, I have not used it for a few months, it starts and runs for a few minutes but then stops, I have checked the gas flow and have taken out the screw and spring at the bottom of it and gas comes out, please advise

Well David- it could be a couple of things.  One of course is a clogged carburator jet, or......  your points could be wet or dirty (very likely).  You'll have to pull the fly-wheel to get at 'em.  The points are your most likely suspect.  Is this mower stored outside?  Left in the rain?
