Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Eager 1, eager 1 engine, shear pin

Question
John, I have a 5.5 hp eager 1 engine and the shear pin was sheared after hitting a root.  I removed the flywheel and replaced the shear pin.
However the pull rope still kicks back violently when I try to start it.  Is there internal damage? This is the second time I have encountered this problem with another Eager 1 engine.  Any suggestions?  Mike

Answer
 Hello Mike

Provided the Flywheel Key Slot wasn't Damaged, then it sounds like the Sudden Stop Twisted the Cam inside the Engine also.  Its not uncommon for this to happen. Also Remove the Spark Pulg and Tilt the motor so you can see the blade turn. Turn motor by hand and look at the Blade Bolt. If it is not turning true you may have bent the Crankshaft to the point it is Binding on the Block.

Sorry I couldn't be or more Assistance.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
