Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 14.5 hp briggs., electric fuel pump, briggs and stratton

Question
I recently got a very good deal on a brand new
14.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine.
model-280H07 type-0036 E1 code-060228ZD
and I am trying to wire it to my old
108 John Deere. I don't plan on ever using it on
full throttle I just need it to fire.
How do I wire it to work and keep fuel going to
the carburetor. I have it turning over well
but it will not fire.

Answer
 Hello David

 1. I bet your having a blast.  If you don't have the Coil grounded the you should have fire to the plug. One lead from the 14.5 B&S is to the Coil and another is the Charging System. The Coil wire is connected to Ignition Switch so when you turn off the engine it grounds out the Coil. Try starting the motor with only the Starter Wires connected and see if it fires to the Coil.  If not you have other problems.

 2. On some engine transfers like you are doing, I have found it necessary to use a low pressure (3 to 7 lbs pressure) Electric Fuel Pump. If the Fuel Tank Feed line is below the Carb then an Electric Fuel Pump will be required. Most times the Fuel is Gravity Feed to the Carb.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
