I HAVE A MURRAY LAWN PUSH MOWER WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL AND YOU GO TO START IT IT STARTS AND THEN GAS COMES OUT THE MUFFLER AND THE MOWER SHUTS OFF BUT WHEN THERE IS NO GAS IT STARTS UP FINE AND RUNS FINE TILL GAS RUNS OUT ?  IS THE CARB BAD?

I belive this mower has the maetal gas tank on the side and the small plastic carb mounted to the top of the tank. If im correct, yes the carb is bad. They are cheap 15-20 $ and easy to replace. A new carb comes with a gasket set a gas filter and a diphram spring. to change the carb remove the gas tank first just two bolts twist it to unhook the linkage from the carb then remove the carb. I think its five screws. pay atention to how it comes apart. clean out the tank and reasemble the new carb. the small thin gasket goes down on the tank first and then the thicker one on top of that. tighten the screws down in a star pattern hand tight no need to wrench them down real hard you just need a good seal.
