Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): electric start on lawnmowers, battery cables, hp motor

Question
I am replacing my 8 hp b&s with a b&s 11 hp motor. The 11hp has a starter with conventional battery power. Could I convert it to a 110 electric start without too much modification?

Answer
Hi Tom -
Heh - fortunately, converting in this direction is pretty easy.  Check NorthernHydraulics.com for a 110vac starter for your 11hp motor.  Call them to verify the right one.  Other than that, its pretty simple. Unbolt your old starter, unwire it from the solenoid (leave the solenoid-won't hurt anything) leave your ignition intact.  Bolt on the new starter, it'll come with a 110v plug.  Take out your battery & remove the positive and negative battery cables (your generator stator will still produce voltage for your ignition and lights, you don't want to short it out)
