Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 3.8 HP Carb reassembly, throttle plate, tecumseh engine

Question
Hi ,
I have tried to clean the carb on my mower which has a 3.8 HP tecumseh engine, because it was surging a lot and becoming very difficult to start. It turned out that it was filthy and that there was a leak at the inlet, which I have fixed with a new gasket, and cleaned the faces. The problem is that I can't see how the operating rods fit back together on top of the carb, as the main operating lever seems not to be connected to anything directly. Also what does the govenor lever actually connect to?
Thanks
Jamie

Answer
Hiya Jamie!
The throttle rod actually dosen't connect directly to anything except a lever and a spring (the spring connects to the governor rod or the throttle plate).  The reason for this is the governor has to be able to overcome the throttle setting to keep engine speed in check, so-the governor rod will connect DIRECTLY to the throttle plate(on the carburator).  The throttle rod (from your controls) works through a spring and lever.
If this dosen't help enough- reply with your engine model adn carburator type (describe it- has a bowl underneath or mounts directly to the gas tank- etc) and I'll be more specific!  Lemme know!
