Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Small Engine repair tachometer, throttle linkage, wheel horse

Question
Michael,

I just rebuilt a Kohler K241 out of a 1974 Wheel Horse B-100.

I need to set the high speed limit on the throttle linkage before adjusting the carburetor.  What do you recommend for a tachometer to test this?  Can I use a timing light that reads rpm for 4, 6, 8 cylinder engines and factor the value to my 4-stroke single cylinder engine?  If so, how do I calculate that factor?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Dave,

I don't think you can use anything other than a single cylinder tach.  All I could suggest is to buy one, rent one or bring the engine to a repair shop and borrow theirs.
