my schainsaw would only run/cut for about 10 minutes and then stop; after it cooled, about 30-40 minutes it would run for another few minutes before stopping. i bought a carb kit and replaced gaskets, diaphram etc and now it runs even rougher-i can hardly get it started before it cuts out. the hi and lo needles were not touched; i  checked and both are still set at 1-1/4 turn as before. i think i replaced everything in the carb as i removed it. any suggestions

Hi Richard,

Right after it quits, check for spark, so you can rule out ignition problems.  The low speed needle is usually set at 3/4 turn out.  Check for a good fuel flow at the carb inlet.  Check the muffler and exhaust ports for carbon clogging.  Check for air leaks at the crank seals.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael

thanks michael, i have spark and have readjusted lo speed needle; gas flow is good and exhaust is flowing-gust of strong air flow, a bit black on the muffler though; can you describe how to check the crank seal for air leaks, i'm not even sure that i know where the crank seal would be located...thanks..richard

Answer
Hi Richard,

One crank seal is under the clutch and the other is at the opposite end of the case.  Checking them requires special toola and fixtures which allow pressurizing the crankcase.
Other things that you can more easily check are, the intake ports or reed valve (if equipped).  Other than that, I can think of anything else.

Keep me posted.
