Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 5 HP revs too high, butterflys, governer

Question
Hello.  Your Q&A has really helped me out.  Snowthrower would not strt.  Cleaned carburetor but need help adjusting.  turnd high and low scrws 1 1/2 turns from lightly seated, startd engine and warmd.  adjusted low speed scrw in until engine runs rough and out until engine sputters and set in the middle.  Low speed screw adjusted ok.  Here's the PROBLEM:  when I push the throttle up to fast to start the procedure to adjust the high speed screw at the bottom of the bowl, the engine revs so high that it sounds like it will blow out.  did I re-assemble the butterflys in the wrong configuration?  Maybe I damaged the High speed screw during reassembly? HELP! Thank you!

Answer
Hi Teddy,

I suspect the governer.  Either the spring or linkage is incorrect or there is an internal problem.  I can't direct you without seeing the engine.  Try different configurations or look at a similar engine to compare with.

Good luck,
Michael
