Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro 724 snowblower, snowblower, carburetor

Question
Can you describe precisely how to clean a carburetor on a snowblower like mine?  I believe I have to, as I couldnt get it to start until I adjusted the carburetor.  Now it starts but I cannot open the choke all the way without causing the engine to rev up and down.  It seems no amount of adjustment (although I am admittedly an amateur) will stop that.  So I'm guessing I need to clean the carburetor, but I don't want to do it and miss something or do it wrong.  Am i supposed to use a specific type of wire?

Answer
Hi Dan,

If the carb is "hunting" by allowing the rpm's to go up and down, you can try replacing the governer spring.  If no change, you will need to disassemble the carb.  Just remove it and disassemble all the parts.  Lay the parts out in order and/or make notes to help remember how to re-assemble it.  Clean each part with carb cleaner and probe the carb body with a fine wire.  Using whatever size you can get that fits.  Finally, blow the carb out with compressed air.  Add a rebuild kit also.

Let me know how you make out.
