Did the person below solve the problem.  I have the same problem.  Troy Built 490BC string trimmer has been wonderful, but just quit running and will not run more than 2 seconds now.  Carb cleaned.  Plug replaced.  Valves adjusted.

I have a 4 cycle Troy Built trimmer. It died on me the other day and I tired the following things. I cleaned the air filter, cleaned the fuel filter, changed the oil, changed the spark plug, checked the spark arrestor, put clean fresh fuel in the fuel tank. I can get it started part of the time but will not stay going longer than 30 seconds. Small adjustments in carburetor helped a little bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Andre,

I'm not sure what happened to the other person.  If yours can be made to keep running by adding fuel to the carb's intake, then I would suspect a lack of fuel flow.  That condition would most likely result from a clogged carb.
I would re-clean it and add a rebuild kit.
